Fresh O.P.P. from the OG!
Want to start the near year fresh?
How about the just-released 2021s from Maison Noir, including "Love Drunk" Rose 2021 and "OPP" Pinot Gris 2021!
Add to that the current vintages of other favorites such as "In Sheep's Clothing" 2019, a Washington Cabernet Sauvignon that retails for $20, "New Noir" Orange Wine 2020 which is a nod to the "natty" crowd, and the upscale "Oregogne" Pinot Noir 2020 ... It's easy to pick a winner from celebrity winemaker, André Mack.
Having known André for almost 20 years now, I feel like a "proud uncle" seeing his vision realized for "serious wines that don't take themselves too seriously."
When he started Maison Noir in 2007, André was ahead of the curve designing labels that spoke to younger consumers seeking quality and value. His spare, black-and-white designs and tongue-in-cheek humor jump off the shelf even as the flurry of trendy labels grows.
He's an O.G. of hip and cool wine, an image that just gets more established each year. (Have you seen André's tastings with celebrities like Kevin Hart on Bon Appetit's You Tube Channel?)
Indeed, since we first brought in Maison Noir more than 10 vintages ago, the wines are as on-point as ever. While the packaging is playful, the wine is legit. Maybe you'd expect as much, given André's years at Per Se and French Laundry, and the wines' pedigreed appellations (mainly Willamette Valley).
But considering that André was nominated by James Beard as Winemaker of 2020 alongside Cathy Corison, you know wine is top notch.
Especially for the affordable price. Like André says, Maison Noir makes wines "for the 99%."
With Black History Month starting next week, this is a great opportunity to showcase African American-owned wineries like Maison Noir.
