The perfect red on a hot summer day

On blistering hot days like today, your guests may crave something quenching, as Kool-Aid might have satisfied growing up.

So what do you serve your red wine fans?  The ultimate juicy, fresh red just might be dry Brachetto.

If you’re unfamiliar with it, “dry” Brachetto is neither sweet nor sparkling; it's a still wine with a juicy, bright style that can be served at room temp or with a slight chill. Only a handful of producers make a dry Brachetto – it’s a niche as obscure as Freisa, Grignolino and Rucche. So when you find one you’re in for a special treat!

A special treat indeed -- that's why Matteo Correggia went out of his way to make “Anthos” dry Brachetto. He could easily have contented himself making more of his fabulously popular Nebbiolo, Arneis and Barbera. But "Anthos" was Matteo's very favorite winefor its fresh, juicy and exuberant style. Today, Matteo’s son Giovanni carries on the tradition, making "Anthos" because it's delicious.

The wine is grown on their the Roero estate in sandy seabed soils which heighten the natural aromatics of Brachetto. Like all Correggia wines "Anthos" is farmed organically with a lot of care. The harvest is manual and the fermentation is done with a light touch to preserve the exuberant aromas of this aromatic red.

The result is a pale red with brilliant clarity and an explosive nose like a bouquet of fresh red roses. On the palate, "Anthos" is juicy and fresh with a dry finish and a slight bitterness akin to Campari. The bright acidity makes it great with all kinds of foods, from seafood to charcuterie, or on its own on the back porch.

Friends, with a few turns of the screwcap, instant gratification is seconds away.
